    Electives Begin

    Student Appreciation Day

    The 2009-10 school year has come to a close.  We took a day to appreciate  all the wonderful students at SMS.  Grade 7 was initiated as the new student leaders of the school.  Grade 3 took time to say thank-you to Miss Pat Danneman upon her retirement after 40 years of Catholic School service.  Miss Danneman, you are so loved by SMS..thank you, thank you!

    God Bless you all and have a safe and happy summer.  We will see you on August 25! 

    Graduation Class of 2010

    The Class of 2010 graduated on May 28 with a prayer service and graduation ceremony followed by a student dance.  Over $252,000 was awarded in Academic Scholarship money and 20 students received Admission Honors to local Catholic High Schools. 66% of the Class of 2010 received academic excellence recognition!

    We are proud of these young men and women as we bless them, say good bye and wish them well on their journey into high school. 

    St Mary Night at the Reds

    Enjoy photos from St Mary Night at the Great American Ballpark.  The Reds won 8-1 against the Pirates and we honored Miss Pat Danneman who is retiring after 40 years of service in Catholic Education.  Thank you Pat!

    Talent Show 2010

    Student Council hosted the Second Annual Talent Show on May 20.   We are blessed with an extremely talented student body!  

    COSI

    COSI on wheels visited St Mary School on May 21.  Students participated in hands-on-science activities as they "Investigated Energy."

    Confirmation

    Our Grade 7 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation from the Most Reverend Archbishop Dennis Schnurr.  God Bless these young men and women in their faith journey.

    Marian Prayer Service

    Students, faculty, parents, & Fr. Ken gathered in the grotto to honor our patron saint.  Students led the service with prayer, song, readings, and a beuatiful reflection.  Read the text of the Mary reflection, "Queen of Families," written by Grade 8 student Jessy McKeever.

    Fine Arts Weekend at St Mary School

    The Jr. High Theater program proudly presents Alice in Wonderland May 14 & 15 at 7:30 PM.  Enjoy some photos from the afternoon school performance...exceptional talent!  Every St Mary student has a piece of art work on display in Robisch Hall May 14-16.  View the amazing gallery before the show and after all Masses.

    Right to Read Week May 10-14

    St Mary School hosted visiting authors during Ohio Right to Read Week. 

    Local Cincinnati Children’s Book author Matt Ackerman visited Kindergarten-Grade 3 students and read his book titled “Antoine’s Ault Park Adventure.

    Another local author, St Mary parishioner and past SMS parent, Mr. Jack Greiner, spoke to students in Grades 4-8.  Mr. Greiner shared with students the many, varied reasons for writing; to entertain, inform, persuade, or advise..encouraging students to read and write about their interests.

    Students also had the opportunity to dress as a favorite character in a book in honor of "Right to Read Week."

    Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast

    St Mary School students and staff honored all our volunteers at a "Thanks for the Memories" Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.  Thank you Volunteers...Thank you for Building our Family!

    First Communion 2010

    Our Grade 2 students received their First Holy Communion the weekend of May 1&2.  Congratulations on this important step in your faith life!

    Raffle Drive 2010

    St Mary School students kicked-off the the Raffle Drive ticket bonanza in support of the annual Parish Fun-fest held August 20-22.  Sale of tickets run through May 11.  We thank our students, families, & teachers for their hard work. 

    St Mary ISSE Delegates Depart for Ecuador

    We blessed our ISSE Delegates at an All-School Mass in preparation of their three week journey to Jefferson School in Salinas, Ecuador.  Later in the day the travelers shared their USA Performance...it was a "Party in the USA!"

    We will miss you...blessings for a safe and educational journey...we will enjoy the stories of the adventure upon your return!

    Jr. High Trimester 2 Honors Assembly

    St Mary School graduate Dr. Brad Wenstrup was our key note speaker at the Honors Assembly for Trimester 2.  Dr. Wenstrup spoke about his service to our country and encouraged us to do our part by being the best person we can be by looking out for our family, friends, and neighbors.  We thank Dr. Wenstrup for his brave service to our country and being an extraordinary role model for us all.   Congratulations to all our Honor Roll students and Science Fair Award Recipients.

    St Patrick's Day 2010

    All St Mary students were Irish on St. Patrick's Day! 

    Second trimester "No Reponsiblity Check Mark in the Planner" Jr. High students were treated to a breakfast of green bagels/fruit/juice/& milk.  Congratulations to 81 of our grade 6,7,& 8 students who were honored for being responsible, kind, & courteous students.

    We ended the day with an Irish Dance assembly.  Several of our own St Mary School students performed with the McGing Dancers.  Amazing!

    Grandparents Day 2010

    St Mary School Kindergarten-Grade 4 students welcomed grandparents for the morning.  Grandparents spent time in the classroom, enjoyed breakfast treats in the cafeteria, and attended a Prayer Service and Jr. Theater prodcution of "A Kid's Life."  Enjoy the sights from the day!

    ISSE students from Ecuador at SMS

    We are enjoying delegates from Jefferson School in Salinas, Ecuador.  Thank you to host students and families for your hospitality and care.

    Catholic Schools Week 2010

    CSW celebrations continue...students dressed in pajamas, crazy socks, and we had lunch with friends & family.  Our student council participated in the Catholic Schools Week Mass at the Cathedral.  Enjoy!

    School families, interested families, and our parish families paid us a visit at our Catholic Schools Week Open House.  Enjoy some of the fun!

    Inspirational Catholic speaker, Mr. Matthew Kelly, spoke to students in Grades 5-8.  Mr. Kelly's message:

    Grade 8 & SMS Choir Performance

    Spectacular!  We wish everyone a very blessed and joyous Christmas.  Enjoy the scenes from our last day...the 29th Annual Grade 8 Christmas Play, our fantastic SMS Choir performance, and an entire student body on a sleigh ride!  May God Bless you all!

    The Day Before Christmas Break

    What a Day....a juggler who shared The Christmas Carol story with grades K-5, grade 5 students decorate the rectory, grade 4 students play Christmas songs on their recorder as students enter the building in the morning...lots of love and Christmas cheer to be had!  Thank you St Mary School students for your gifts of love!

    Grade 1 & Kindergarten Christmas Performance

    A day of Christmas joy and magic at St Mary School as our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students presented their Christmas performances.  Enjoy!

     Student Council Christmas Toy Drive

    Student Council organized a school-wide toy drive and were able to fill to the brim two trucks and two vehicles with the collection.  Toys are distributed to families by The Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses.

    Spelling Bee

    The following students qualified in their classrooms to compete at the St Mary School Spelling Bee on December 9.  Congratulations to:  Grade 4 students: Carly Jones, Kate Juliani, Kendall Kearney, Lauren Stacey; Grade 5 students: Ethan Bensman, Morgan King, Emily Moll, Liam O’Brien; Grade 6 students: Ben Capannari, Bella Proietti, Ryan Schack; Grade 7 students: Kevin Cleary, Con Murray, Parker Rogers; and Grade 8 students: Charlie Johnson, Jack Krug, Caroline Perry, and Jack Shoemaker.  

     St Mary School Choir

    The SMS choir performed at Joseph-Beth Bookstore with Christmas songs that filled the hearts of all the holiday shoppers.  Beautiful perfomance!

    Wieland Scholarship Recipients

    In loving memory of Florence Poland Wieland, St. Mary School Class of 1938 graduate, Mr. Eugene Wieland has established a scholarship fund that awards $3000 in scholarship money to deserving St. Mary students.

    Recipients are diligent learners, strive generously to serve, and live consistently the motto of our school “Love Spoken Here”.  The 2009-10 recipients are Josh Wiles, grade 3;  Luke Frey, grade 6; Nick Mannix, grade 8; and Brianna Richardson, grade 8.  Congratulations

    Kindergarten & Grade 1 Give Thanks

    A Thanksgiving Meal was shared by Kindergarten & Grade 1 students.  We are truly blessed!

    Grade 8 student recognized in essay contest

    Grade 8 student Jack Lang was a second place winner in the Catholics United for the Poor (CUP's) annual esssay contest, "Who is a Living Saint In Your Life and Why?"  Over 900 essays from Cincinnati area Catholic School students were submitted for consideration.  Jack wrote about his oldest sister Maura, an SMS Class of 2004 graduate.  Congratulations!  Pictured is Jack along with Jr. High Religion teacher, Mr. Sean Laudeman.

    Grade 2 First Reconciliation Breakfast

    Grade 2 students marked their First Reconciliation with a morning of breakfast and special activities.

    Jr High Honors Assembly - First Trimester

    Jr. High honor students were recognized at an assembly for their academic achievements.  Mr. Stephen Poat, Director of Youth Development at the Milford Spiritual Center was the guest speaker.  Mr. Poat spoke about the importance of relationships with your friends, teachers, family, and God.

    Berenstain Bear Author Visits SMS

    Michael Berenstain, author of the famous Berenstain Bear series, paid a visit to primary students at St. Mary School on November 9.  Lots of fun!

    Veterans Day Assembly

    St Mary School students honored veterans at a heartfelt assembly.  Songs from each branch of service were sung, students read essays on honor, courage & sacrifice.  Student Council presented letters for SMS Class of 1999 graduates who are are currently serving in the military.  Lt. Col. Karl Kadon delivered the keynote address.  It was a beautiful event.  Our favorite assembly at St Mary School.   Enjoy photos

    Student Council Inducted

    Our 2009-10 Jr. High Student Council was inducted in a ceremony following Mass on September 25.   Student Council is charged with organizing community service activities, serving as leaders for school projects, and serving the student body with kindness and compassion.  We hold our entire Jr. High in high regard as leaders and role models for our primary and intermediate level student body.

    Magazine Drive 2009

    Thank you to all St Mary School students, parents, and teachers for support of the magazine drive.  We celebrated our success at the Magazine wrap-up assembly.  Students generated $80, 159 in magazine sales with 40% of the proceeds coming back to the school to fund student assemblies, teacher workshops and many "extras" that help make SMS a school of excellence.  Congratulations to top seller Daniel Lantz! Enjoy a few photos

    St Mary School welcomes 48 new alums from the Class of 2009.  Class of '09 was awarded over $230,000 in scholarship money to Cincinnati Catholic High Schools.  See June newsletter for all the details.  Best wishes to you!

    The Month of May at SMS

    May is a busy month at St Mary School!  We gather as a school in worship at our Marian Prayer Service; Grade 7 students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation; and we share our school spirit as we celebrate our student's efforts and success in the festival raffle drive wrap-up assembly.  Enjoy the sights!

    Raffle Drive Kick-Off

    St. Mary School students showed lots of school spirit at the raffle drive kick-off.  Students support the parish festival through the pre-sale of raffle tickets for the August 14-16 Funfest.  Grand prize is $10,000!  Buy a raffle ticket from a St Mary student now through May 12 and have the chance to be an early bird winner of $200 in grocery certificates.

    Mr. Castellini Delivers Honors to Jr. High Students

    Cincinnati Reds CEO and St Mary School graduate, Mr. Robert Castellini, returned to SMS to speak at the Jr. High Honors Assembly.  Mr. Castellini spoke on the importance of his faith, relationships with teachers, and the power of believing in yourself.  Pictured with Mr. Castellini are Grade 8 Honor students with Principal Mrs. McBrayer and Mr. Pat Feely who is a retired SMS Jr. High teacher and classmate of Mr. Castellini.

    Michael Walsh at SMS

    Catholic Evangelist Michael Walsh, a motivational speaker and youth minister, spoke with Kindergarten-Grade 8 students.  His inspirational message of come (to church,) pray, read (the Bible,) and serve others touched all.  Learn more about Michael at www.yomichael.com

    Grandparents Day 2009

    Kindergarten-Grade 4 hosted grandparents for a morning of classroom time, a prayer service, and the Jr. Theater Production of "The Musical Genie."  All grandparents present and those not able to join us were honored.  We are blessed with special people we love!

    Science Fair

    Grade 7 & 8 students presented their Science Fair reports and experiments to a panel of Science Professionals and AP High School students from St. Ursula Academy and McNicholas High School.

    Martin Luther King and Presidential Inaguration Assembly

    St. Mary School honored Martin Lunther King Jr. and the Presidential Inaguration at an all-school assembly.  Students performed a living time line of the Civil Rights movement in the USA leading up to the inaguration of President Obama.   

    Grade 8 Christmas Assembly

    Enjoy images from an amazing Grade 8 Christmas performance on the symbols of Christmas.  St. Mary Choir and Jr. High Elevtive class also performed their magic!  We are a blessed school community.  Merry Christmas!

    Student Council Toy Drive

    SMS student council organized a huge toy drive for children in need.  God Bless all families during this Christmas season.

    Holiday Bookfair

    St Mary School held a Holiday Bookfair at Barnes & Noble In Kenwood.  The student choir seraned shoppers, student council provided gift wrapping services, and Mrs. McBrayer read holiday stories in the children's section.

    Grade 1 & Kindergarten participate in the"Annual Thanksgiving Feast."

    Veterans Day Assembly

    A heartfelt assembly was held to honor veterans in our school community.  Each branch of service was recognized through student led song.  A keynote address was given by Air Force Veteran Mr. Linden Simms.  May God Bless our Veterans and May God Bless America.

    Elective Showcase

    Grade 7 & 8 students presented their newly learned talents from 1st Quarter Elective classes.  Art, Golf, Table Tennis, Korean Cooking & More, Pick Up Your Feet and Dance, Physical Training at Cincinnati Sports Club, and Animation Master were featured.  Check it out and be amazed!

    Family Picnic Celebration!

    Over 500 St Mary School moms, dads, students, siblings, and friends gathered for a glorious Sunday afternoon 100th Birthday Picninc celebration.  Fun, food, and fellowship were in abundance

    Happy Birthday St. Mary School! 

    September 26, 2008 was a day of celebration at St. Mary School.  We started the day with an all-school Mass and enjoyed the company of the Sisters of Charity (the founding order of St. Mary School in 1908.) 

    Every grade level represented a decade from the last 100 years and we paraded through our Hyde Park community.  Returing to school we shared our school spirit with a pep rally on the playground.  Enjoy snapshots from the day.  Happy Birthday and Blessings to all in our St. Mary community.
