Boy ScoutsSt. Mary Boy Scout Troop 170 was chartered in March 1928 and currently has 43 scouts and 22 adult leaders. Troop 170 has historically been involved in many activities: Honor guard for President Herbert Hoover when he dedicated Victory Parkway; raising $6000 on V.E. Day in a Radio Talk Show on WKRC Radio; and being honored for having earned the greatest number of Scout advancements in the Council in 1975, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. In 2006, St. Mary Boy Scout Troop #170 was featured in Time magazine: “The Year in Review” for a memorial erected in Veterans Memorial Park located in Union Township honoring fallen servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cub ScoutsThe purpose of Cub Scouting is to help develop boys' character, train them in outdoor survival skills, promote citizenship, personal fitness, and HAVE FUN! St. Mary Pack 146 Activities are held monthly and are open to the entire family. Fun and interesting Pack activities have included: Halloween Creepy Family Camp Out, Overnight Lock-in at the Museum Center, Weekend at Cub World Scout Camp, Christmas Caroling, Pinewood Derby, Spaghetti Dinner, Orienteering, Reds Games, Fishing, First Aid, Neighborhood Clean Up, and Festival Ring Toss Booth. Pack 146 has active Dens in every grade level from 1st through 5th grade: Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), Bear (3rd grade) and Webelos (4th and 5th grades). Den Leaders schedule, plan, and run den meetings that are held a couple of times a month. For information call Cub Master Greg Rogers at 321-6937. Girls ScoutsSt. Mary Girl Scouts mission is to help girls grow to be caring, competent, and confident women through service, outdoor activities, the arts, and fellowship. St. Mary has troops from Kindergarten (Daisies) through Grade 7 (Cadettes). Daisies meet once a month for crafts, songs, and games. Brownies troops (Grades 1, 2, & 3) meet twice a month after school and begin to earn badges. They also go camping and have had overnights at the Zoo. Juniors (Grades 4, 5, & 6)) and Cadettes (Grade 7) help plan their twice monthly meetings, work on extensive service projects and earn badges.
